Cell Phone Policy

SCHOOL-BASED POLICY FOR I.S. 392K FOR USE OF CELL PHONES, COMPUTING DEVICES, PORTABLE MUSIC, AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY

ALL Electronic devices (Cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and headphones) must be turned in during homeroom.

In the case that you need to contact your child, please call the school office 718) 498-2811 / (718) 498-2491 and a message will be delivered to your child via his/her classroom teacher/counselor and parent coordinator.
 

PLEASE DO NOT TEXT YOUR CHILD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.

The use of cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems at school is subject to the restrictions below:
  1. Cell phones, portable music, entertainment systems, and/or electronic devices may not be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination.
  2. Use of cell phones, computing devices, portable music and entertainment systems and other electronic devices during the administration of state standardized examinations is governed by State Education Department Rules.
  3. Cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.
  4. Cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems may not be used in locker rooms and bathrooms.

Cell phones may be used as set forth below:

During the school day:
Cell phones may not be turned on or used while on school property. 

Computing devices may be used as set forth below:

During the school day:
Computing systems may not be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher.

Portable music and entertainment systems may be used as set forth below:

During the school day:
Portable music devices and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used while on school property.
If a student is found to be in violation of the Cell Phone Policy, the device (cell phone, iPod, MP3 player, etc.) will be confiscated by school personnel. Devices confiscated as a result of three or more violations will only be returned by administration to the student’s parent or guardian, after a meeting has been scheduled with administration.
I.S. 392 is not responsible for any electronic devices and cell phones that become damaged, or are lost or stolen.

Discipline:

School-based policies state that students who use cell phones, computing devices, and/or portable music and entertainment systems in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor Regulation

A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“ISUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.
