Grading Policy
**For all I.S. 392 students the passing grade for all classes is 80% (level 3).
**Any student that receives a grade average below standards in one or more of the core subjects (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science) will be placed on academic probation for the school term following the distribution of report cards. Once on probation, students and parents are expected to work diligently with school personnel towards getting off academic probation.

PLEASE NOTE: Students placed on academic probation during the course of the school year, are in jeopardy of being removed from the gifted and talented program.

5th Marking Period
For the 5th Marking Period grades are averaged automatically from 1st – 4th marking period.
In addition, whenever possible, the grades should reflect the NYS levels as follows:
Level 4 – Student exceeds the learning standards; performance shows a superior understanding (correlates to 90-100%)
Level 3 – Student meets the learning standards; performance shows a thorough understanding (correlates to 80-89%)
Level 2 – Student shows a partial achievement of the learning standards; performance shows partial understanding (correlates to 65-79%)
Level 1 – Student does not meet the learning standards; performance shows minimal understanding (correlates to 55-64%)
Honor Roll Requirements
After report cards are issued each marking period, students may qualify for academic honors. To qualify for either Silver Honor Roll, High Honor Roll or Principal’s Honor Roll, a student is required to meet the following criteria indicated below:

- Students must have the required cumulative average.
- No grade below a 80 in any subject.
- Any student receiving a U or N for conduct will be considered ineligible for the honor roll.
- Students must have 90% attendance per marking period.
Honor Roll:
Cumulative average is 80 to 84.99 with no grades below 80 in any class.

Cumulative average is 85 to 94.99 with no grades below 80 in any class.

The honor roll is NOT just based on the cumulative average. ALL the requirements are taken into consideration.
